There are lots of ways to do it!
Today I’m sharing a story from the amazing blogger Blessing, that will show you…
3 Ways to Feel Beautiful
- Stop focusing on your flaws
- Embrace who you are
- Love Yourself
Here it is:
From my teen years I struggled with truly loving myself.
It didn’t help that kids at my high school said things that were unkind. I simply didn’t feel good about myself: I felt fat, too dark, unattractive and that no boy would be interested in me.
I had put my worth on what humans thought of me rather than what I thought of myself or what God thought of me.
I allowed society to dictate what beauty looked like and got lost in trying to measure up.
During these times I tried to change who I was, to try to be cool. But despite those attempts, I felt I didn’t measure up. This is because I wasn’t being true to myself, my authenticity wasn’t transparent.
Often times we feel inadequate. That’s inevitable, but it’s important that we make the daily conscious decision not to stay there.
As a woman of color it was hard sometimes to truly love the skin I was in…
I wished my skin was lighter, I felt that I was too dark to be beautiful, I spent too much time focusing on my flaws.
When I chose to lay down my flaws before God I saw things in a new light. I became unashamed of who I was, what I looked like, I embraced who I was.
I was and am a daughter to a King who made me exactly who I’m meant to be.
Self-love and beauty are intertwined. I firmly believe that both are needed to be complete.
Once you choose to love yourself, others opinions have no control over you.
You believe that you are beautiful and carry yourself in such manner.
It’s a daily conscious decision that can start simply by reciting positive affirmations to yourself daily in front of a mirror.
There will always be others who judge you, who don’t see the beauty you hold.
That’s they’re loss.
Choose to let your beauty radiate through your life.
Show that same love you have for yourself to others. Choose to build others up who often feel down, speak life into others who are struggling with loving themselves.
Self-love is a journey and I am thankful for God, family and friends who lifted me up in my moments of insecurity.
In the comments below tell me:
How have you allowed society to dictate how you should look?
Love,
Lena*
