Today I’m talking about new beginnings, again :)
I’m thinking about taking an interior design course this year (and maybe architecture, next year). Another one I’d like to take is fashion design.
These are all experiences, things I think I want, but I still have some doubts.
In fact, I’ve always had this doubt and I’ve spoken about it before here. Fashion or Architecture, were my two favorite options, in my teen years.
This after eliminating the other two I liked: Journalism and Dance.
The dance part I keep practicing, because I love sports and working out. I always did sports, except when I was in Macau for 4 years. And even then I went to the Hyatt Hotel gym. I also swam and did sauna, at the hotel, that I loved.
When I was little I loved to roller-skate, bike, run, climb trees, go on “dangerous” hikes ;)
I think that’s why I don’t like to spend a complete day at home – because I love sports and being outside.
Journalism comes from loving to write, and I do that with the blog. That is the fulfillment of that part of my passions.
With fashion, I started the image consulting company and the fashion blog, my style app and course. And that’s been my main focus, in the last years.
Finally with architecture, which was the course I had decided to do when I was 15 (I thought it was the best option because it combined the arts part with a more technical one), I flipped some houses and also remodeled some of the houses I lived in (which ended up being an investment also ;)).
But I always regreted not doing the course and not being able to remodel more houses. I really love to see an old house being transformed, and everything involved with it.
Well, now that I’ve written this, I’m noticing that I’m actually doing a bit of everything I like. Of all my favorite things which is quite all right ;)
And this year I’m thinking about adding this interior design part, that I really love, to the blog and fashion. My friends say that I’m always changing my decoration and it’s true :) I don’t buy a lot of new things, but I keep moving the furniture around and trying new dispositions.
But I want to know more about it, so I can do more complete and sophisticated decorations.
In my life, and maybe because I like so many different things, I had a bit of a hard time deciding on just one thing to do.
The “experts” advise us to focus on just one thing, because that’s the way to make success easy. Maybe that’s true, and in that case I’m completely wrong because I want to do this course and the blog and the fashion… ;)
I also heard that what makes us different, is the unique combination we are. In that case, maybe I’m more interesting because I like these 4 things, and maybe I should follow all of them, as hobbies or as professional work.
Whatever it is, the truth is that, during my life, I kept doing the 4 things I like :)
Now that I have my kids, I can understand my father better, and why he didn’t want me to be an architect. I talk with other mothers and it seems that no one wants their kids to follow arts.
I decided long ago that I would support my kids in whatever they wanted to do. It sounds good in theory, but sometimes, when I’m looking at things through fear, and not possibilities, I start thinking that my daughter wants to choose arts, and I hope everything goes well… like choosing arts were harder and less likely to go well as everything else.
It’s what “everybody” says. It’s what we “see”.
But most of the time, I want my daughter to follow exactly what she desires, that she learns from her decisions, her discoveries.
I want her to have the freedom to do what she loves the most, and be good at it.
Like Jim Carrey says: “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”
What about you, what are your passions? Do you keep doing them in your life?
Finally here’s a fashion tip ;)
This is one of the outfits I feel like wearing, that I chose in my style app, CYOU:
I really feel like buying a very warm striped sweater, to wear this outfit! It’s one of the trends I’ve been seeing lately, and good because it’s different from the usual dark Winter colors ;)
