Today I was walking and noticing my hair on the mirror of a building. And suddenly I noticed that my hair was … I can’t even explain ;)
I don’t know about your hair, but my hair can look like a lions mane, because it has lots of volume.
When that happens, I have to admit that I don’t like it. I wanted to have always shiny, beautiful and good looking hair.
Why does my hair look like that?!?! Maybe it’s humidity, the shampoo, I don’t know. But I do know that it’s hard to style it at home. I put lots of oils, products. Sometimes it does help and it looks better, but it depends – sometimes it does nothing.
I never know how my hair is going to wake up ;)
I struggled with that for a lot of time. I talked badly about my hair. Why couldn’t it be straighter? Why didn’t it look good, every day?
Then I started straightening my hair at the hairdresser and I noticed that straight hair always has some disadvantages. On the one side, it always looks good. On the other side, it always looks the same – and it always looks the same when we wake up ;)
It may be irritating to not know how my hair is going to be when I wake up, but on the other hand, it’s great. Because sometimes it does look good :) And on the bad days, I can do a pony tail :)
I noticed that sometimes it has lots of volume and I love to see it that way!
And if I go style it professionally, with waves, my hair looks great and has volume – and I also like to see some volume.
So I started to notice the good things about my hair, instead of just the bad ones. They both are there, but we tend to lean towards the negative things…
I realised it’s important that we look at the advantages, instead of the disadvantages, of what we have. Because we always have both. And we can focus on the negative or the positive. It’s the story of the glass half full or half empty.
If we focus on what we don’t want, we get more of what we don’t want. Like with my hair, when I just focused on how it didn’t look good every day, and I didn’t even notice the days when it looked good and I loved it.
If we focus on what we want, we’re going to see more of what we want.
I can look at the way my hair always looks different in the morning, and see it has a good thing or a bad thing.
There’s a journaling exercise you can do to see the advantages in ANYTHING. They’re always there, and the more you look for them, the more you’ll find them!

How to Love What You Hate
- Think about something you don’t like in your life
- Write down: “Thank you for <thing you don’t like> because …” and write whatever comes to mind, without editing or thinking.
For this to work better, write for some time. You can put a timer for at least 3 minutes and write.
If you don’t remember anything, ask: “If I did know, I would be grateful for …”
And to write more, use this question: “What else?”
